Self Pack Moving Companies, Are they for you?

Moving, like death, marriage and divorce, can be a huge stressor. On top of that, it’s expensive! Self Pack Moving Companies can reduce the financial sting, but do your homework, so you don’t get burned. Self Pack movers save you money by letting you box up your own belongings. Usually, they will handle the truck loading and the transportation of your stuff to your new home. There are a couple of things to consider when you use a Self Pack moving company. The first thing you should think about is materials. Some companies will provide you with boxes and this can be a huge cost savings. Other companies may require you to buy your supplies from them. This can be a big expense. A good tip is to look in your local area for bulk paper suppliers to see if you can buy blank newsprint. The moving companies will sell this too, but it is pretty expensive since they are marking it up from the bulk distributor’s price. Don’t use saved newspapers as that printers ink will get everywhere and may never come off your valuable china! Some movers will let you use "used" boxes that they have left over from other jobs. The boxes your movers will have access to are really the best for the job since there are special boxes that make the packing job easier (wardrobe, china etc). A second issue to think about is insurance. A mover may not fully insure boxes that you pack. If you didn’t do a good job wrapping up your heirloom lamp and it breaks, you may be out of luck. Read all insurance documents closely so that you know what the limits are. Of course, you should also be vetting these businesses with your local chamber of commerce or Better Business Bureau. Word of mouth can also help you get an idea of what companies are the easiest to work with. If you do your research, you can end up turning the great stress event into a wonderful adventure for yourself!
