Bonsai Styles – Shakan

Otherwise known as the slanting style, the shakan is one of the more intricate bonsai looks. The tree will need to be bonsai central ny positioned very carefully in the pot and there are a number of intense sculpting details involved.

The slant of the tree will be at a high angle anywhere between 30 degrees and 75 degrees. The lowest branch should point away from the trunk and give the tree a unique, balanced appearance. Balance is a key aspect to the artistry of bonsai trees.

The trunk of the shakan style will be slanted straight, but not curved in any way. There are always variations and room for interpretation for the artist, however.
