Visit the Philippines: It’s Not Just About the Bandits

People from around the world only heard of the Philippines from the massive news on kidnapping, the Abu Sayaff or tragedies due to volcanic eruptions. While all those unfortunate facts are true, there are many beautiful things about the Philippines and it certainly outweighs all the bad parts. One reason (among thousands) why travelers should visit the Philippines is the Tubbataha Reef. This is an atoll coral reef in the Sulu Sea. Each reef has a single small islet that protrudes from the water. The atolls are separated by a deep channel 8 kilometers wide. Over one thousand species, including many that are endangered, can be found at on the reef. These include manta rays, lionfish, tortoises, clownfish and sharks. In fact, this reef is nominated and strongly competing at the top as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. There are three other nominations from the Philippines competing with the best of the best from all over the world.
